It’s simply nature

We create incense that carries the calm and grounded spirit of Maine’s woods into everyday life.

Forest Incense of Maine draws its roots from the classic tree-guidebooks first issued by the Maine Forest Service, beginning in 1908. These handbooks told more than how to know a balsam or a cedar; they shared stories of Maine’s working woods and its forest industries. We carry forward that heritage, honoring the old relationship between people and the trees that shaped this place.

All our scents are single-note and intentionally simple. We don’t use essential oils or alot of ingredients—just whole plant material, ground fine and combined with traditional incense binder made from the tabunoki tree bark.

Each cone starts as two to three powdered ingredients and mixed with water. The putty like material is kneaded and rests before being pressed into molds by hand. The cones are released from their molds and dried for several days to cure before being packaged in our re-usable tins.

How to Use:

Our incense can be used in many ways—during meditation as a quiet timer, as something to focus the mind, or to freshen and settle a room. Some folks burn it to clear a space or set intentions; others just enjoy the steady, comforting scent it brings when they walk through the door.

Place one cone on a heat-safe, fireproof dish or incense burner. Light the tip until it catches, let it burn for a few seconds, then gently blow out the flame so the cone smolders. Allow the smoke to fill your space and enjoy the natural aroma.

Safety

  • Always burn incense on a heat-resistant surface.
